WhatThe club is based around the hugely popular Raspberry Pi, a cheap £30 single board computer.
The kids learn by completing a mixture of projects that are readily available online and homespun material which we are developing all the time. With some programming experience under their belt we encourage the kids to apply what they have learned and exercise their creativity and imagination by developing a maze game of their own. At the end of the year we organise a "Raspberry Jam", where the kids present their team-developed projects work to the rest of the group. This is a great platform for sharing ideas and getting help & advice. Occasionally, we may organise a themed evening with talks from guest presenters and/or hands-on demos of some really cool stuff. Robots are a favourite. |
WhoThe club is run by a group of school parents, many of whom work in the I.T. industry. They volunteer their time because they are passionate about creating a spark of imagination in the kids who will become our next generation of digital makers.
We are always on the lookout for more classroom mentors. If you are interested, please get in touch. You do not require any prior computing experience. Bags of enthusiasm and a keen-ness to learn alongside the kids are all that is required. |
